Question: I’ve had a facelift and eyelid lift once at age 52 and then again at age 73. Now, I just need some tweaking for the little bit of sagging in my jowls and neck, but don’t want surgery anymore. I’ve heard of Ultherapy but have also read that it can thin out your skin and make you lose volume in your face. Is there any other non-surgical option that would be effective?
Answer: While there are several non-surgical skin tightening devices on the market, including Thermage and Ultherapy, I have found Infini RF to not only be safe but also the most effective in the right candidates. I have been using Infini RF for nearly 5 years and continue to perform an average of 3 to 7 Infini treatments on a weekly basis in my practice.
For a “laser” device to still be going strong into its 5th year is unusual in the cosmetic industry since many lasers and similar devices tend to phase out as soon as 2 years after their introduction into a practice. The key to Infini RF’s success lies in its advanced technology which is uniquely different from the majority of “similar” devices on the market.
Unlike Ultherapy which has a fixed depth of penetration into the skin, Infini RF has adjustable penetration depths controlled by the doctor using the device. Ultherapy has been associated with reports of facial volume loss because it may penetrate too deep and cause damage within and beyond the skin layers, potentially resulting in collagen breakdown and facial fat loss. Infini, on the other hand, has multiple depth, power and frequency settings, all of which can be adjusted based on the patient’s skin quality and thickness.
As you age, the skin becomes thinner. It thins out more in some areas of the face than others. A skilled “laser” surgeon recognizes the differences in facial aging anatomy and can tailor treatment settings to each patient’s unique needs. This is where it becomes important to offer a skin-tightening device that goes beyond the “cookie cutter” approach of less sophisticated devices to avoid a poor outcome.
Another important benefit of Infini RF is that a standard full face and neck treatment series can create 50,000 collagen stimulation zones compared to only about 10,000 similar zones with other devices including Ultherapy. One would also expect that a higher concentration of collagen stimulation zones would result in greater skin tightening.
Infini RF can be very beneficial for tightening and lifting sagging skin in several different types of patients. Patients who have mild to moderate face and neck sagging but don’t yet need a facelift; patients who have more significant sagging, don’t want a facelift and are willing to accept a modest improvement; and finally, patient’s such as yourself, who have already had surgery and just want to tighten, lift, “tweak” and maintain the results. Of course, who performs your Infini treatment is equally and, perhaps, even more important.
Consulting with a Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon regarding your facial tightening options is the first step.
