Question: I have fine lines in my upper-lip skin and in the crow’s feet around my eyes. My surgeon says the lip lines are too fine to treat with Restylane or Juvederm. Also, Botox does not completely improve my crow’s feet. Are there other options?
Answer: Belatero® is a newer filler that has been successfully used in Europe for several years and is now available on the U.S. market. One of the benefits of Belatero® is that it can be used for very fine lines with less risk of lumpiness, unlike other fillers like Restylane and Juvederm. Belatero® also typically lasts as long as Restylane.
Belatero® is a hyaluronic acid filler similar to Restylane and Juvederm. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found throughout your body, giving Belatero® a high safety profile.
Very fine lip lines often cannot be treated with traditional fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm, which are too thick and can cause lumpiness. Because of the nature of the Belatero® molecules, fine lines can be treated with Belatero® with less risk of lumpiness.
Belatero® is also being used effectively for the residual lines around the eyes that Botox may not completely treat. In comparison, Restylane and Juvederm are not recommended for crow’s feet, since the outer eyelid skin is too thin and such traditional fillers can give an unnatural or lumpy appearance.
Whether you are a candidate for Belatero® is best determined by your facial plastic surgeon during a thorough consultation.
