Question: I have dark circles under my eyes. I’ve heard that Bellafill® can improve my dark circles and give long lasting results. How do I know if am a candidate for treatment?
Answer: Long term injectable fillers such as Bellafill® are commonly used in my practice to treat certain types of “dark circles” under the eyes. One should be aware that not all dark circles are alike. Dark circles can occur from hollowing under the eyes as a result of fat or bone loss with age. They may also result from pigmentation changes in the lower eyelid skin, giving an unsightly appearance of darkness. Additionally, malar grooves or creases in the upper cheek area caused by loosening cheek ligaments may be mistaken for under eye circles.
When the appearance of dark circles is due to hollowing under the eyes caused by fat and/or bone loss, Bellafill® can soften the hollows and lessen a tired, aged look. In addition to being a cost-effective long term filler with lower maintenance, Bellafill® can also be more effective in filling the entire width of the lower lid hollow including the inner, central and outer aspects, in contrast to temporary fillers like Restylane and Sculptra.
The lower eyelid hollow can
be a tricky area to correct and should only be addressed by a highly skilled specialist to reduce the risks of an unnatural or puffy look under the eyes.
A detailed consultation with your Facial Plastic Surgeon to identify the cause of dark circles is the first step to tailoring an effective treatment regimen.
