Question: I have creases at the mouth corners which are also droopy. A plastic surgeon injected the lines with Juvederm™, but my mouth still looks droopy. Can Bellafill® give better results?
Answer: Treatment of the mouth corners can be tricky. It’s not always a simple matter of filling lines and grooves. The mouth corner can be broken down into the following distinct categories:
• Marionette lines or superficial creases at the mouth corners
• Downturned corners of the mouth
• Depressions below the corners of the mouth
• Deep grooves, also known as a pre-jowl sulcus, due to sagging jowls that push down the mouth corners
The approach to the mouth corner depends on the type of aging. Temporary fillers like Juvederm or Restylane™ can effectively fill marionette lines. Depressions or downturned mouth corners are treated with a deeper filler such as Radiesse™ or Bellafill® to restore volume and lift.
Bellafill® is more cost-effective and long lasting, with lower maintenance costs. When a pre-jowl sulcus results from sagging jowls, lifting of the jowls surgically with a facelift or non-surgically, with the Ulthera™ micro-facelift, are options.
The choice of injectable filler depends on goals of treatment and whether line or volume filling is desired and if lifting is needed. When indicated, Bellafill® is a safe and effective long-term solution for treatment of the mouth corner.
