Bellafill & Infini Pre-Juvenation

Posted: 6:00 a.m. Sunday, March 5, 2017

By Anita Mandal, M.D.
Question: I’m in my late 40’s with volume loss in my cheeks and under eyes and mild chin and neck sagging. My friends think I’m being vain and should wait longer. I don’t want to wait to look worse before doing anything. When is a good age to start plastic surgery treatments?

Answer: It’s less about chronological age and more of how you feel and your unique pace of aging. Each patient is different. Some 35 year olds experience early neck sagging whereas others still have a tight neck at 70.

I tell my patients that it’s not about what your friends, family or significant other thinks. Having a cosmetic procedure, particularly on your face, is the most personal choice and should be about how you feel. Two primary factors go into a decision to have a cosmetic procedure. First, does your aging bother you enough to do something about it? Second, are you a candidate for the cosmetic procedure? The first answer is for you to decide and the second is for your doctor to determine.

The early aging you are experiencing can be improved as part of the pre-juvenation process. I don’t think

that you are being overly vain at all. Starting early before more significant aging kicks in is smart, not vain. Pre-juvenation addresses early signs of aging and can not only help slow down the pace of facial aging, but also keep you looking natural. The more aged your facial tissues, the more changes are needed to restore a youthful appearance. The more aggressive the changes needed, the greater the chances of looking unnatural.

With the mild facial hollowing, your pre-juvenation could consist of temporary fillers, which last 1-2 years and require costly maintenance. Alternatively, Bellafill, the 5-year filler, can give you a long term result. Since Bellafill also tends to get better with time, Bellafill pre-juvenation may significantly help slow down the aging process.

Infini RF is another effective pre-juvenation treatment for early face and neck sagging. Infini works to both soften fine lines and wrinkles by aggressively stimulating collagen and elastin and also to smooth, lift and tighten the tissues. Waiting for sagging to progress puts you at a more aged starting point, requiring more extensive cosmetic treatments.

The earlier you get started, the less aggressive treatments you need to look more youthful and natural. Go with how you feel about your aging facial appearance rather than what others say. Then it’s between you and your plastic surgeon to jointly decide what type of treatments are best for you. Be sure you seek a board certified facial plastic surgeon and not the quick-fix docs offering cosmetic procedures without proper credentials.
