Question: I have sagging in my neck and it’s getting worse with age. I’ve been reading your articles for many years. You’ve written about several different options for loose neck skin. How does one know which is the right neck procedure for them?
Answer: Each patient is different and what procedure they need will also vary from one person to another. There are several different ways to address a sagging neck, depending on the type of aging you are experiencing.
What type of procedure you need often can come down to whether you have sagging jowls from your face falling down into the neck. Another important factor is how much of the loose tissues in the neck are localized to under the chin and in front of the neck. If you have one or both of these findings, and they are moderate to severe, you are more likely a candidate for a facelift and not a less-invasive procedure.
On the other hand, if you have mild to moderate sagging of the face and neck, you could benefit from Infini RF, the non- surgical facelift that works by stimulating the collagen and elastin within your tissues without downtime.
Patients who are mainly concerned about loose tissue in the front center of neck and under the chin may be a candidate for a direct necklift which is surgery, but can be performed under local anesthesia and is much less invasive than a facelift.
The Laser Facelift and my Whisper Lift are intermediate surgical options when aging in the face and/or neck presents between the extremes of the options mentioned earlier. Of course, you must be the right candidate to have any of these procedures.
It is important to understand that facelifting techniques do not typically improve wrinkles, deep smile lines, droopy mouth corners or hollow cheeks. Injectable fillers like Bellafill, Restylane and other supplemental procedures may additionally be required.
A thorough consultation with a Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon to determine the optimal procedure(s) for your unique facial rejuvenation needs is the first step.
