Question: I’m 71 years old and have hollowing in my face, fatty jowls and neck as well as loose skin. I don’t want a facelift. Is there a way for me to get some reasonable rejuvenation in my face without surgery or a long recovery?
Answer: If you do not wish to have surgery and are willing to accept some worthwhile improvement, but perhaps not to the exact same degree as facelift surgery, then you may have some non-surgical options.
For facial hollowing such as that occurring in the cheeks, temples and lower eyelids, facelift surgery does not typically improve these areas needing facial volumization. There are, however, many volumization fillers including Restylane, Juvederm, Voluma, Radiesse, Sculptra and fat. My treatments of choice are either Bellafill – the 5 year filler – or stem cell fillers due to their longevity and reliability. The results from these latter two fillers also tend to be the most natural.
For excess fat under the chin and even in the jowls, Kybella, which permanently reduces fat, can be injected non-surgically to reduce as well as sculpt excess fatty tissue. The use of Kybella for sculpting of the face and neck requires an expert plastic surgeon who is highly skilled with sculpting treatments.
Finally, sagging skin can be tightened and lifted with the Infini RF which works by stimulating your collagen and elastin production. Infini RF can be used nearly all over the face as well as on the neck. In addition to lifting and tightening, Infini RF can also improve aged skin texture as well as fine lines and wrinkles, making Infini a dual action laser but with no downtime.
With the advanced minimal invasive, non-surgical options available today, less invasive procedures can give satisfying results. However, it’s important to recognize that such treatments often must be used as part of combination therapy to increase your chances of having the desired results of a youthfully sculpted face and neck.
A thorough consultation with a Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon who understands the complex facial anatomy and facial aging process is the first step in helping you decide what is the best combination of procedures to suit your unique facial rejuvenation needs.
