Question: My forehead is aging. My brows are droopy and the thinning skin makes my forehead look bony. How do i know whether to have surgery or do injectable fillers?
Answer: A surgical browlift or forehead lift is a good option for raising the eyebrows. It can soften forehead wrinkles as well, but this effect is temporary as the forehead creases usually return over time. Browlifts are not typically effective in restoring volume to the forehead which may still look bony and aged after surgery.
Compared to a forehead lift, injectable fillers like Bellafill® can also raise a sagging brow. Additionally, Bellafill® can add lost volume by filling of forehead hollows and grooves.
Bellafill® does not significantly improve finer forehead wrinkles since it is not designed to be placed in the superficial layers of the skin. It can, however, fill in the deeper forehead creases and furrows between the eyebrows. Combining Botox™ for wrinkles with Bellafill® for volume loss can rejuvenate the forehead effectively in patients who prefer not to have surgery.
To determine if you are a candidate for a forehead lift or injectable therapy, a thorough consultation with a Facial Plastic Surgeon who has experience in performing both procedures is the first step.
