Question: I’m 55 years old and have thinning eyebrows. I’ve tried brow tattoo makeup, but it gives me a “painted-on” look. Am I a candidate for an eyebrow transplant?
Answer: Eyebrow transplants are a permanent and natural looking solution for thinning eyebrows. Your brows can not only be made thicker but hair can be added to areas where it is deficient. Additionally, the brow shape can modified to create a higher arched brow or to raise the eyebrows, giving you the style of brows you may have always wanted.
Unlike tattoo makeup treatments, which have to be repeated each time they fade, an eyebrow hair transplant is typically only done once. It is also more natural looking since your own hair follicles carrying individual hairs are transplanted into the brow area.
Compared to a surgical forehead or brow lift which is more invasive and has significant recovery, eyebrow transplants are much less invasive, performed using local anesthesia with minimal downtime. There are no dressings or visible sutures, and patients can return to most routine activities within one to three days.
Typically, up to 500 individual hair follicles are prepared from a hidden area of scalp behind the temple hair, which is the best hair texture match to the brow hairs. Eyebrow transplants range in cost from $4,000 to $6,000. If you have thinning brow hairs and/or would like to enhance the shape of your brows, you may be a candidate for an eyebrow hair transplant.
