Question: Just finished your article in today’s Post. Boy, did you hit me with both fists…Almost two years ago….I went to a very well-known MD…..The tech did Ultherapy….I used to get compliments on my skin and people guessed me at least 10 years younger. I have lost the fat and filled areas of my face….this is my ugly story?
Answer: More and more issues similar to yours are surfacing after Ulthera treatments. I don’t think the Ulthera company was initially aware of the risks but we now know much more since Ulthera has been on the market longer.
Ulthera was incorrectly thought to be better then older devices on the market because it penetrated deeper and deposited heat into the deep tissues to stimulate collagen. However we have learned that deeper is not always better. When you penetrate too deep, you can enter the fat layer of the face and cause fat to dissolve, resulting in hollowing and volume loss, making you look older.
Unfortunately, Ulthera’s depth settings are mostly restricted to deeper levels with little room to tailor the depth based on patient skin thickness. Infini, on the other hand, is a highly versatile platform with a very broad range of depth settings as well as power and pulse width settings.
Infini has enough flexibility that one can treat sagging skin of variable thickness without penetrating too deep. Infini also allows the surgeon to treat unwanted fat under the chin when desired as well aged skin texture, large pores, lines and wrinkles. This can all be managed with adjusting the depth, pulse width and power settings to tailor treatment to your unique needs. I have not come across a facial tightening device, as of yet, that has such versatility combined with no downtime.
It is a misconception to think you should only seek a surgeon for surgery. Facial Plastic Surgeons have in-depth knowledge of facial anatomy and expertise in both non-surgical and surgical facial aesthetic treatments. Each time you have a non-surgical cosmetic procedure by a less qualified doctor, you increase your risk of complications and poorer results. When it comes to your face, why would you consider less than a Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon? Log on to ABFPRS.org.
