Question: I’m in my mid- 70’s and perfectly healthy. It’s been recommended that I have an eyelid lift, cheek fillers, Infini laser for sagging jowls and neck as well as Botox for my forehead wrinkles. What is the best order to have these procedures completed within a few months?
Answer: All of the procedures you mentioned can be done safely within a few months. For some, the order in which you have them can be important.
If you are having upper face Botox and an eyelid lift, the timing between these two procedures is key. Since forehead Botox relaxes the upper face, it can put some tension on fresh incisions made during upper eyelid surgery. Since it’s important to minimize any scar tension during healing, I usually advise patients to have Botox one month before upper eyelid surgery or wait one month after eyelid surgery. Botox shouldn’t have an impact on a lower eyelid lift so the timing would be less important.
Cheek fillers and Botox can likely be done the same day and on the same appointment. My filler of choice for sunken cheeks is Bellafill — the 5-Year Filler. If you are looking for 1- to 2-year temporary fillers, Juvederm, Restylane Defyne, Voluma or Sculptra are options.
When it comes to having Infini RF or most facial lasers, it is important not to do Botox on the same day as a facial laser treatment. Even a small amount of swelling from the laser can cause the injected Botox to spread to surrounding areas to give unintended results from the Botox. Botox can however be done on any day other than the laser treatment, even as soon as one day before or one day after your Infini.
The timing of filler treatments with Infini varies depending on the choice of filler.
With temporary fillers, Infini performed over the area of filler treatment can make the filler dissolve. In this case, it is better to do the filler treatments after your Infini treatments are complete. Bellafill, however, is different. I often perform Bellafill as soon as 7 days after Infini. Bellafill can also be injected as soon as 10 days before an Infini treatment and I’ve not seen any dissolution of filler.
It’s important to note that when you’re having cheek fillers and lower, or even upper, eyelid lift surgery, the swelling from surgery can temporarily make your cheeks look fuller. Injectable filler treatments soon after surgery, especially within one month, are not typically advised since you still have surgical swelling which can interfere with accurate visualization of the cheek area.
