Non-Surgical Facelift Vs. Surgery

Posted: 12:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2019

By Anita Mandal, M.D.
Question: I’m in my 60?s and have some sagging in my neck and my jowls. I don’t want a facelift. Infini RF skin tightening sounds great but will it give me the same results as a facelift?

Answer: As with any cosmetic procedure, it’s important to have realistic expectations. Studies show that a realistic patient is much more likely to be satisfied with their results. With that being said, Infini RF is not equivalent to a facelift.

If you are looking for a skin tightening procedure to lift sagging in your jowls and neck without surgical incisions, general anesthesia, higher risks and downtime, then a non- surgical device such as Infini RF may be ideal for you.

Unlike some other RF devices, Infini RF works by stimulating your collagen and elastin and it does so by placing multiple points of micro- focused heat at very specific levels within the tissues to give highly effective results. Infini’s treatment settings are highly adjustable and can be individually tailored to each patient’s skin type and thickness. The end result is tightening and lifting of sagging face and neck tissues as well as improved skin texture and wrinkles.

One cannot really compare of the results of Infini RF, a minimal invasive device, to those of a facelift. The goals of these procedures are different as are the criterion for whether or not you are a candidate.

Infini RF is most suitable for patients with mild to moderate sagging of the face and neck. It can also be effective in a patient with more significant sagging, who requires a facelift for full correction, if the patient is willing to accept some degree of improvement in order to avoid facelift surgery. A third situation where infini RF is beneficial is in someone who already had a facelift and wants to maintain the tightening achieved with a facelift by opting for Infini on an annual maintenance schedule.

In essence, it’s not necessarily an “either/ or” type of decision between Infini and a facelift. Many factors need to be considered including one’s overall health status and willingness to accept surgical facelift incisions as well as the risks of surgery. Additionally, one must decide if their lifestyle allows for the longer recuperation of facelift surgery compared to Infini which has no downtime.

Some patients unquestionably need a facelift in order to get a worthwhile result. Others are not at the stage where a facelift will benefit them any more then Infini RF. In this case, one can often get just as good results with Infini as one would with a facelift. And there are still some patients who are in the middle range and must make a personal choice as to whether the benefits of Infini outweigh the benefits of a facelift.

The best way to determine if you are the right candidate for Infini RF is through a comprehensive consultation with a Board-Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon who is experienced and skilled with performing both surgical facelifts as well as minimal invasive skin tightening treatments.
