Question: I’ve had Bellafill® injections in my hollow cheeks and temples, and like it since it’s more permanent than other fillers. Since it causes growth of your own body’s collagen, can you have uneven collagen growth and asymmetry in the face?
Answer: In addition to its high safety profile and long duration, Bellafill® has a low risk of lumps such as granulomas and more predictable volume filling due to it’s unique formulation, which has an even distribution of Bellafill® particles.
Bellafill® has two main components. Its active ingredient, the PMMA microsphere, works by stimulating your own body’s natural collagen to give filling. Additionally, Bellafill® contains a bovine collagen carrier that keeps the PMMA particles evenly distributed within the tissues during and after injection.
The uniform distribution of Bellafill®’s PMMA microspheres reduces the chances of clumping with lower risk of forming granulomas. Equally important, this results in the PMMA stimulating more uniform growth of your own body’s collagen. Thus, volume restoration to the face is more predictable and uniform with Bellafill®, with less chance of filling in other areas not treated.
Compared to Bellafill®, Sculptra™ is a popular filler can that last two years. Unlike Bellafill®, Sculptra has a more uneven suspension of particles. It is more likely to stimulate collagen growth in facial areas where it was not intended to. Additionally, it may not give the degree of collagen growth desired in the areas injected.
Careful consultation with a Facial Plastic Surgeon who is an expert injector and highly experienced with Bellafill® is the first step in determining if you are a candidate for Bellafill® volume restoration.
