Restore facial volume: Collagen stimulation
Question: I’ve read that Infini™ and Ultherapy® both treat sagging skin by stimulating collagen and that Bellafill® also works by producing collagen. Wouldn’t Infini also stimulate collagen to restore lost volume in my hollow cheeks so that I wouldn’t need Bellafill®?
Answer: While its true that all three, Infini, Ultherapy and Bellafill®, work on our body’s own collagen, not all types of collagen regeneration have the same effects. Facial sagging occurs more along a two dimensional tissue plane. Infini and Ulthera® focus on stimulating collagen along this two directional skin sheet to tighten and lift.
Unlike the two dimensional effects of Infini and Ultherapy, Bellafill® can restore facial volume because it stimulates collagen in a three dimensional plane. Facial hollowing is often due to bone and fat loss, which is a three dimensional aging process.
While Infini and Ultherapy use several treatment passes, they do not target deeper tissues. Bellafill® injections, however, can be placed deep, well below the skin, for three dimensional filling. Also, Infini and Ultherapy treat a broad surface area, mainly skin, for tissue tightening. Whereas, Bellafill® targets specific facial zones for three dimensional volumization.
Some patients require lifting and others need filling. With age, most of us require both. A detailed consultation with a Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon who is knowledgeable about the aging process, surgical facial anatomy and the most effective treatment options is the first step.
