SculpSure: Why Choose A Plastic Surgeon?

Question: I’m interested in SculpSure for fat removal on my stomach. I’ve called around and it seems cheaper to go to an office where a technician performs the treatment. If a technician can do the treatments, why pay more to see a plastic surgeon?
Answer: SculpSure, a non-invasive and permanent fat reduction treatment, is superior to CoolSculpt. In fact, SculpSure has become a gold standard in non-invasive fat removal. As simple as each 25 minute treatment may sound, several important factors can increase your chances of a good result.
For starters, thorough assessment by your plastic surgeon is key. The degree of pre-existing skin laxity over lying the fatty tissue can significantly affect your final result. In addition to fat reduction, while SculpSure also tightens the skin that loosens from fat removal, it does not tighten pre-existing loose skin. An experienced surgeon familiar with surgical liposuction procedures is likely much more qualified than any technician to evaluate your candidacy for SculpSure non-invasive fat reduction.
Accurate assessment of the full extent of the area(s) to be treated is also critical in obtaining a good result. There have been quite a few patients who were quoted lower treatment fees to later learn that the fees were only less because the area to be treated was much smaller. Technicians tend to be under more pressure to offer lower fees and the easiest way to cut back the cost is by doing fewer treatment pads to a limited treatment area. To avoid being disappointed, the cheapest price does not necessarily give you the best results.
Each patient is different and the fat properties of each area also vary with the individual. Knowing how to adjust the SculpSure laser settings to achieve optimum results in fat reduction requires a higher skill level than what one might find in a technician.
Treating areas that are considered “off-label” should ideally be performed by a plastic surgeon. While SculpSure is FDA approved for the abdomen and flanks, it is common practice to treat other areas including the thighs, upper arms, back and knees. These off-label sites often require special positioning of both the patient as well as the treatment pads, in order for permanent fat reduction to be effective.
In summary, when the fees are too low, it’s important to question the quality of treatment you may be receiving as well as the skill level of the medical personnel performing your treatment. A patient with pre-existing loose skin, with fat outside of the abdomen and flanks or difficult-to-reach regions may be best served when receiving treatment by a board certified plastic surgeon rather than a technician.
