Question: I am 62 years old, on a blood thinner and cannot have surgery. Most fillers I know of can fill lines. Is there a way to lift my cheeks and sagging jowls by using fillers?
Answer: With advanced injectable filler techniques that have developed in only the last few years, we are actually able to use fillers to not only to fill grooves and lines but also to lift the tissues.
While there are several injectable fillers available to lift tissue, I have found Sculptra to not only be very safe and long-lasting, but also the most cost-effective, requiring the least frequent maintenance. Facial lifting can be achieved along the jawline to give definition and to lessen the appearance of sagging jowls. Often, the jowls sag into the neck, making the neck appear heavier. Once the jowls are improved, there can be additional benefit in that the neck can appear tighter.
Injecting Sculptra at some very specific points along the jawline to lift the jowls typically should be done in combination with a mid-face and temple injections to achieve an effective lift to the face.
While most injectable fillers are being placed in the skin or just under the skin, Sculptra can actually be placed even deeper, under the facial muscles. This placement of Sculptra allows for not filling but, more importantly, lifting of the tissues. Sculptra can still be placed into the deeper skin tissues for fine tuning and volume filling once the lifting of tissues with deeper injection has been achieved.
Sculptra can be a good alternative to lift the facial tissues in patients who do not wish the long recovery, incisions or risks of a surgical facelift. Sculptra can additionally be combined with the Ultherapy non-surgical micro-facelift for additional tightening and lifting, particularly in the neck and lower face. Careful consultation with your facial plastic surgeon to determine if you are a candidate for Sculptra is the first step.
