Timeline for replenishing a “permanent” facial filler

Question: I have Bellafill® in my temples, forehead and cheeks. It took 15 syringes but the results look great and very natural. Even though the Bellafill® costs much more, it was well worth the price since I’m not returning every year for refilling. Although Bellafill® lasts a long time, when would I require more filler since I’ll continue to age?
Answer: Bellafill® was FDA approved over five years ago for the cosmetic treatment of certain facial wrinkles, even though the active ingredient of Bellafill® has been used in medicine prior to its cosmetic formulation. Based on over 20 years of research and product development, the active ingredient of Bellafill® is known to last much longer than five years, being considered “permanent.”
When complete correction of a facial hollow is achieved with a long lasting filler like Bellafill®, repeat treatments are not needed except for future aging. In comparison, temporary fillers are often replenished every six to 12 months since they are quickly resorbed by the body, even in the absence of further aging.
The timeline for additional Bellafill® treatments varies greatly because the pace at which each patient ages is different. Even though the Bellafill® placed in a facial hollow lasts a long time, we all experience additional volume loss with age. It’s this ongoing volume loss that will, at some point, require more Bellafill®. Whether future aging becomes evident at two years, five years or 15 years is difficult to predict in any given patient, due to vast individual differences in the rate of aging. What we do know is that
Bellafill® is much more likely to last for significantly longer times than temporary fillers, making it more cost effective with less frequent refilling.
Careful consultation with a Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon who can accurately assess your volume restoration needs is the first step.
