Question: I am in my 70’s and don’t want surgery for my sagging jowls and neck. Is Ulthera effective for someone my age?
Answer: I have successfully used Ulthera in patients ranging in age from 40 years to the late 70’s. Age alone does not determine whether you are a candidate for Ultherapy™.
Candidates for Ultherapy™ are typically patients who:
- Are not ready for surgery but desire to improve sagging in their face and neck tissue
- Cannot have surgery due to medical reasons
- Have realistic expectations
Ulthera is an ultrasound that stimulates collagen regeneration to cause tissue tightening and lifting. We all have collagen in our tissues no matter what the age so nearly everyone can expect a response to Ulthera. While a 70 year old may not get as equally strong of a collagen response as someone in their 40’s, its equally true that a mature patient is likely to heal more slowly from surgery compared to a younger patient. Nonetheless, age alone is not a contraindication to Ultherapy™ or to facelift surgery.
Your Ulthera results depend on the degree of sagging as well as your other aging concerns such as wrinkles and facial hollowing. As the years pass, the more likely it is for you to require procedures such as Botox and injectables in addition to Ultherapy™ for optimal facial rejuvenation.
A thorough consultation with your Facial Plastic Surgeon to assess your needs is the first step in optimizing your facial rejuvenation.
